SnapManager for SQL Backup Wizard


1. Launch the SnapManager for SQL application.

2. Click Next. Expand Microsoft SQL Servers – Your SQL Server Name and select the databases that you wish to backup. If you have databases contained all in one lun, these databases will be backed up all together. However you will be able to select individual databases that are contained on their own lun.

3. I will be backing up the databases and transaction logs, click Next.

4. I will be taking a full database backup, though you also have the option for transaction log backup only.

5. I will be placing this backup job in the Daily Backup Management Group. Click Next.

6. In this backup job I will select to truncate the logs after a full backup. Truncation of logs only occurs if your database is set to Full Recovery Mode, if it’s set to Simple Recovery mode no logs will be truncated. Click Next.

7. I only want to keep the last 6 backups, earlier backups will be deleted. Click Next.

8. I only want point in time backups for older backups in separate management groups. However you can select yes to retain up-to-the-minute restore for older backups. Click Next.

9. I will be using the server named verify1 to verify backups. Click Verification Setting.

10. If you are have SnapMirror or SnapVault integration you will be able to select a few options here. Click Next.

11. Click Backup Setting.

12. On the Full Database Backup tab you can select how you wish the snapshot/backup naming convention to be, and when you would like to run verification. Click the Transaction Log Backup Tab.

13. You have options here for snapshot retention of the SnapInfo drive, and whether you would like to truncate committed transaction logs. Click Ok.

14. I don’t wish to run any commands after this operation. Click Next.

15. A summary is displayed of your settings. Click Schedule.

16. Give the Schedule Job a name and click Ok. A message dialog window appears explaining how to schedule jobs within SQL Management Studio. Click Yes to submit the job. If you wish to run the job manually you can open SQL Management Studio – SQL Server Agent – Jobs, Right click the Job name and select Start Job at Step.
